PRELAUNCH

A Stitch In Time by Andrew Robinson
This is the autobiography of Garak, the secretive Cardassian tailor, spy and former intelligence operative who made frequent guest appearances on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Written by Andrew J. Robinson, the actor who played him on the show, it is a suitably ironic, oblique and at times obscure set of reminiscences. Robinson weaves together three different timeframes, one set after the end of the Dominion War as Garak and other surviving Cardassians strive to rebuild their shattered civilisation, one aboard DS9 that runs parallel to the events of season seven of the TV show, and one--the bulk of the book-which follows Garak's life from his childhood at Cardassia's premier military academy, through his career in the Obsidian Order, and on to his fall from grace and banishment to Terok Nor. The novel is held together with theme rather than an overall plot: exploring the power of secrecy and lies, and the masks we all wear to hide our true selves. It is an interesting fleshing-out of Cardassian society and a fine evocation of Garak by the actor who gave him life. Although some key events are deliberately still shrouded in mystery, the book captures a sense of the essential character beneath the ever-shifting masks.

The Lives of Dax - An Anthology
Nine stories by top SF authors view the whole of Star Trek history through one special character's eyes. One of the most popular and compelling Star Trek characters ever created, Dax is a wormlike being who is joined body and soul to a succession of humanoid hosts. Each life is different, each body is different, each personality is different, but all of them are Dax. At one time or another Dax has been male, female, a Starfleet officer, a statesman, a scientist, and ambassador, even a serial killer. The symbiont's humanoid hosts have included Curzon, friend of Klingons, and Jadzia, science officer on Deep Space Nine and latterly wife of Worf. The most recent incarnation is Ezri Dax, station counsellor on Deep Space Nine. Designed to appeal to fans of every version of Star Trek, the stories in The Lives of Dax each show a different host's adventure - nine incredible lives stretched out over 357 years of Star Trek history. The stories are rich with different aliens, planets, battles, personal struggles, surprising revelations, and guest stars galore.

RELAUNCH

Avatar Book One by S.D. Perry
A new era begins in the annals of Deep Space Nine... Star Trek's grittiest and most challenging series may have reached its climatic conclusion on the television screen, but all-new adventures on the frontiers of Federation space continue between the covers of Pocket Books. In the aftermath of the Dominion War that brought the Star Trek universe to the brink of ruin, space station Deep Space Nine - the galaxy's nexus of military and scientific intrigue, situated as it is on the wormhole that links two quadrants - once again becomes a flashpoint of impending Armageddon when a surprise attack cripples the station, killing the First Officer and threatening the fragile peace. Colonel Kira and the surviving crew of DS9 - along with four controverisal new officers - are all that stand against the outbreak of a new conflict and a doom fortold by the Prophets to coincide with the birth of Captain Benjamin Sisko's child. Meanwhile, Captain Jean-Luc Picard and the crew of the USS Enterprise make a startling discovery, one that will determine the course of an entire civilisation and profoundly affect the lives of the crew of Deep Space Nine.

Avatar Book Two by S.D. Perry
As the story begun in Book One continues, the Federation prepares to launch a counterstrike against the Dominion. Searching for a way to prevent another galactic holocaust, Colonel Kira is forced to make a choice between being true to her faith and being true to her loyalties. Meanwhile, as the combined crews of Deep Space Nine and the USS Enterprise struggle to stop a treacherous plot from destroying both the station and the ship, the shocking truth behind a disturbing prophecy and a grisly murder is revealed. Dark secrets, divided allegiances, treachery and, ultimately, hope - AVATAR is Deep Space Nine at its multi-layered best.

Section 31: Abyss by David Weddle and Jeffrey Lang
The DS9 segment of the dark and disturbing Section 31 novels is Abyss, set a few months after the end of the TV show's run. Julian Bashir is once again approached to work for Section 31, who want him to recover the work of a genetically enhanced scientist who has betrayed them. Dr Locken was sent to Sindorin, a remote planet in the Badlands, to breed Jem'Hadar soldiers to serve Section 31, but instead he has made them loyal to himself. Bashir agrees to go on the mission, despite his hatred of everything the covert operations organisation stands for, because he doesn't want all genetically enhanced humans to be seen as potential megalomaniacal Khans. Accompanied by Ezri Dax, Ro Laren and a Jem'Hadar called Taran'atar, who was sent by Odo to serve Kira, Bashir sets off for the Badlands. On Sindorin, Bashir and Ezri are captured and taken to Locken's labs. Ro and Taran'atar are stranded in the forest surrounded by Locken's Jem'Hadar and try to fight their way into the labs with the help of the local humanoid inhabitants. Locken himself is a mad scientist of the old school, charming and mysterious which, as Ezri points out, has always been a combination to intrigue Bashir, and the two men have several very civilised conversations as Locken tries to win Bashir over with persuasive arguments in favour of genetic engineering. The combination of argument and action make for a good, thoughtful read.

Gateways: Demons of Air and Darkness by Keith R.A. DeCandido

They were masters of space, and to those that feared them, they were demons of air and darkness. But long ago they left their empire and their miraculous technology behind. Now the key has been rediscovered, and all the doors have been flung open. Open for exploration...or open for invasion. On a world near space station Deep Space Nine, Colonel Kira Nerys, her crew, and some unexpected allies fight to avert destruction on a planetary scale. Life and death strike fervently throughout this extraordinary mission in the stars and the characters themselves.

But the crime she seeks to avenge is part of a plot more ancient and far-reaching than anyone suspects, and that secret, if exposed, could divide worlds throughout the Alpha Quadrant.

Meanwhile, as the Starship Defiant makes its way back toward the wormhole and home to DS9, a startling discovery shakes Commander Elias Vaughn to his core and brings to light the truth behind the most tragic mission of his long life. As the crew struggles with the implications of what they¹ve found, their captain's judgment comes into question... and casts doubt on the final outcome of their historic voyage through the Gamma Quadrant

The Left Hand of Destiny 1 by J.G.Hertzler and Jeffrey Lang
Under the weighty mantle of chancellor, General Martok led the forces of the empire to victory in the final Allied assault against the Dominion. Now, with Worf at his side as the newly appointed Federation ambassador to Qo'noS, Martok at last is coming home, bringing with him the hope of a bright new future for his people.

But the new chancellor's triumphant return to the Klingon homeworld is met by treachery and upheaval. As the demons of the general's past rise up, so too does a usurper to the Imperial Throne, one who knows exactly how to crush Martok and all who stand with him -- and who won't be satisfied until they are ashes under the foundation of a new Klingon Empire.

The Left Hand of Destiny 2 by J.G.Hertzler and Jeffrey Lang
Sins of the past collide with hopes for the future as Martok fights for the right to lead the Klingon Empire. With the secret of his usurper exposed, the ousted chancellor and his ragtag band of followers embark on a desperate plan to retake the empire.

But while Worf, Ezri Dax, and the crew of the I.K.S. Rotarran go in search of the Klingons' most revered icon of power, Martok is dealt the most crushing blow of all -- driving him to make his final stand on the ice-strewn cliffs of sacred Boreth. As that frozen world reverberates with the song of armies and bat'leths clashing, the mystery of Martok's past, and the future of the Klingon Empire, is revealed.

Unity by S.D. Perry

On the eve of Bajor's formal entry into the Federation, a major assassination occurs, derailing the induction and plunging Bajor and the station Deep Space Nine into chaos. Investigation into the murder reveals the presence of a parasitic conspiracy threatening not only Bajor's future with the Federation, but the very survival of both.

At the same time, the fracturing of Bajor's theology has put its people on the threshold of a startling transformation -- and the consequences now rest on the shoulders of Colonel Kira Nerys, who months ago defied the religious authority of her planet by making public an ancient heretical text that challenged the very foundation of the Bajoran faith.

Now, after a harrowing and historic voyage of exploration in the Gamma Quadrant, the weary, wounded crew of Starship Defiant is at last coming home. But the joy of their return is short-lived, as the crew becomes swept up in the crisis aboard the station, with many of them confronting personal issues that force them to make life-altering choices.

Among them is a grief-stricken Commander Elias Vaughn, who reaches a crossroads in his life's journey and learns the true purpose for which he was Touched by the Prophets... as well as the ultimate fate of Captain Benjamin Sisko. And somewhere on Bajor... a child long awaited is about to be born...

Worlds of Deep Space Nine by Una McCormack and Heather Jarman
Within every federation and every empire, behind every hero and every villain, there are the worlds that define them. In the aftermath of Unity and in the daring tradition of Spock's World, The Final Reflection, and A Stitch in Time, the civilizations most closely tied to Star Trek: Deep Space Nine can now be experienced as never before... in tales both sweeping and intimate, reflective and prophetic, eerily familiar and utterly alien.

CARDASSIA: The last world ravaged by the Dominion War is also the last on which Miles O'Brien ever imagined building a life. As he joins in the reconstruction of Cardassia's infrastructure, his wife Keiko spearheads the planet's difficult agricultural renewal. But Cardassia's struggle to remake itself—from the fledgling democracy backed by Elim Garak to the people's rediscovery of their own spiritual past—is not without opposition, as the outside efforts to help rebuild its civilization come under attack by those who reject any alien influence.

ANDOR: On the eve of a great celebration of their ancient past, the unusual and mysterious Andorians, a species with four sexes, must decide just how much they are willing to sacrifice in order to ensure their survival. Biological necessity clashes with personal ethics; cultural obligation vies with love and Ensign Thirishar ch'Thane returns home to the planet he forswore, to face not only the consequences of his choices, but a clandestine plan to alter the very nature of his kind.

Worlds of Deep Space Nine by Andy Mandels, Michael A. Martin and J. Noah Kym

TRILL:They are a people with secrets. For centuries they kept their true nature hidden, even taking disturbing steps to protect the small population of near-immortal symbionts with whom a privileged few Trill are joined, body, mind, and soul. They are a people who hold memory to be sacred, yet deny their own past. Now amid a whirlwind of scandal, accusations, and growing civil unrest, Ezri Dax must penetrate millennia of lies and deceptions, and rediscover what should never have been forgotten, before her civilization rips itself apart.

BAJOR: The honeymoon is over. Following the euphoria of Bajor's marriage to the Federation, the real business of making that union work has begun. But even on a world where politics and religion are intertwined, conflicting visions of Bajor's role in the interstellar arena divide the planet's leadership. As newly minted Captain Kira Nerys sets the tone for the kind of Starfleet officer she will be, First Minister Asarem makes a bold move to define Bajor's voice in the Federation, while the returned Benjamin Sisko prepares for a future that only he, as yet, can see.

The Worlds of Deep Space Nine by David R. George III and Keith R. A. DeCandido

FERENGINAR: Quark's profit-driven homeworld is rocked with scandal as shocking allegations involving his brother's first wife, the mother of Nog, threaten to overthrow Rom as Grand Nagus of the Ferengi Alliance. Making matters worse, Quark has been recruited by Rom's political adversaries to join their coup d'etat, with guarantees of all Quark ever dreamed if they succeed in taking his brother down. While Ferenginar's future teeters on the edge, the pregnancy of Rom's current wife, Leeta, takes a difficult turn for both mother and child.

THE DOMINION: Since its defeat in the war for the Alpha Quadrant, the Great Link- the living totality of the shape-shifting Founders- has struggled with questions. At its moment of greatest doubt, its fate, and that of the Dominion itself, is tied to Odo's investigation of his kind's true motives for sending a hundred infant changelings out into the galaxy. As Odo searches for answers and takes a hard look at his past choices, Taran'atar reaches a turning point in his own quest for clarity... one from which there may be no going back.
